Serving to change lives for eternity
copyright Z Foundation, 2009
Saturday, April 17th, a group of about 20 Z
Foundation volunteers had an amazing chance to
serve and love on about 150 homeless folks at
Open Door Church, in Southeast Knoxville. We
provided, prepared and served a wonderful meal
of pulled pork sandwiches, fresh fruit salad,
baked beans and cookies. We also provided
about 45 minutes of worship, with a band of nine
talented and willing musicians from Two Rivers
Church. We set up our gigantic screen to show
the lyrics, so the people could sing along and
worship, not just listen. Jon Hatton provided
"worship painting" and created two phenomenal
paintings during both the singing and the message.
Open Door Church
Sally spoke briefly, sharing Zach's story and explaining why the Z Foundation was there at Open Door
Church. The purpose of her message was to break down the walls between "us" and "them" through
the common experience of pain and tragedy, and to encourage people to choose to trust God and
follow Him, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Many of us felt the powerful presence of the Holy
Spirit throughout the worship, message and serving and mingling afterwards.
We will be doing this every third Saturday and we
highly encourage you to come and join us for an
awesome experience! We would love to show up
with 10-20 volunteers each month. It is an
eye-opening, God-filled, incredible opportunity to
show the love of Jesus to the less fortunate.
